Our mission of the Children's Chorus of Springfield is threefold: to teach music literacy through singing, to help the children develop important life skills, and to encourage their active participation in the city's vibrant arts community.
The Chorus was established in 2007 by E. Wayne Abercrombie, Professor Emeritus of Choral Music at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and Vera S. Baker, retired Director of Visual & Performing Arts for the Springfield Public Schools.
The organization is based on the founders' belief that as children participate in the Chorus, they receive invaluable musical and performance training, learn how to work together, gain self-discipline and control, and become responsible citizens of the world.
The Chorus has performed at a number of venues, including The Mass Mutual Center, the Basketball Hall of Fame, Trinity United Methodist Church, The Log Cabin, Bing Arts Center, Providence Place, and the Springfield Sheraton – with more concerts planned for this coming year! Community support is critical for the Chorus's success – like our partnership with the Trinity United Methodist Church, which provides us with weekly rehearsal space and other resources. There are lots of other opportunities for partnerships with the chorus; contact us for more info!!
